SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS TO FOLLOW AFTER YOUR CROWN PREPARATION:
You have an ACRYLIC (plastic) TEMPORARY Crown which is cemented with TEMPORARY Cement.
If it happens to come off it is not a problem. Don’t panic. The tooth may be a little sensitive without it on. You can try and seat it back on your tooth by placing Vaseline inside the temporary. Call during office hours and we will make arrangements to recement it. It is not an emergency.
Your gums may be a little sore tonight from all of the work that was done. Regular Tylenol, Motrin, or Advil will help with the minor discomfort. You can also rinse with salt water. (1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water)
Avoid chewing gum or anything sticky which can dislodge or stick to the temporary and pull it off.
Avoid eating anything hard (like nuts or hard candy) which can break the temporary.
You can floss the area but try not to snap the floss through the contact. Once the floss is in, just pull it out through to one side without snapping it up and down.
The temporary is just a temporary. The shade, shape and surface of the permanent crown will be smoother and more tooth-like. Also, the bite will be ideal in the permanent crown.
